Our Story

SubMarine Consultancy (Pty) Ltd (SMC) (reg: 2022 / 375840 / 07 ) was founded in 2022 recognising a unique opportunity for developing the shallow water marine environment. With the growth of the Oceans Economy and the drive to unlock this resource, SMC has positioned itself as a unique service provider to the industry. We pride ourselves in providing reliable, trustworthy and quality advice for the management and development of the ocean environment, fisheries and aquaculture to ensure the sustainability of our beautiful South African Coastlines. Our slogan is Come Hull or High Water and this speaks to not only the environment that we work in but also the determination and drive that we as a company provide in progressing to a more sustainable way of life for all.

Meet the Directors

Dr Andrew D. Witte

Founding Director

Andrew holds a MSc from the Nelson Mandela University (formally Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University) which focused on the community ecology and structuring of subtidal reef systems and a PhD in fisheries sciences with a focus on Ranching and stock enhancement from Rhodes University. Andrew is a fully registered Scientist with SACNASP. He is also currently a research Associate in the Department of Ichthyology and Fisheries Science at Rhodes University. He has been involved in a monitoring and baseline assessments in Port Elizabeth and East London areas for the past three years advising Wildcoast abalone on the suitability of the areas for abalone ranching, and has previously advised CDC Commercial diving and Transnet Ports National Authority on biofouling of Hulls in port of Ngqura and Port Elizabeth Harbour providing feedback on the invertebrate fouling structure found on ships that need critical cleaning. Andrew mainly holds research interest in benthic community ecology, habitat change and community structure changes, habitat modelling, GIS and spatial mapping, fisheries management and stock assessments.

Mrs Melanie Witte

Director

Melanie holds a MSc from Torrens University Australia, which was focused on Special Education & Inclusive Education and a postgraduate qualification in Foundation Phase & Early Childhood Development from UNISA. She is also a registered member of the South African Council For Educators (Sace).  Melanie is passionate and enthusiastic about teaching, particularly as an early childhood educator with an interest focus on learners with special needs and learning diversities.
